Will Flying Disc Ranch ever market dates and citrus at Ferry Plaza again?

After 30+ years serving Green Street/CUESA/Foodwise Ferry Plaza Farmers Market, Flying Disc Ranch was expelled in April 2025, when Robert Lower dared send Christina Kelso up for the Saturday farmers market to help sell ruby blush grapefruit (her favorite). 

Later for Foodwise. Their very name is an indictment. R.I.P. sophia (wisdom). We would never willingly abandon our generations of date fans. 

You can find us and our dates and citrus at less fascist farmers markets; at Bi-Rite Markets; and through mail order, packed by Christina herself (!). Scary, we know.

Robert A. Lower is a living legend. The expulsion is Robert’s gold watch for 52 years of growing sweet dates and citrus and driving 520 miles (each way) up to do it. Robert turns 79 this year. 

Christina first began at the farmers market in 2003, apprenticing at Tierra Vegetables. She’s been at Flying Disc Ranch since 2006. Christina grew up in San Francisco, shopping on Green Street with her grandmother. Cancel culture vs. Permaculture. Who’s gonna win? 

As Robert likes to say, “Bite my chihuahua.”
